Anthony's Prime Steak & Seafood

Incredibly disappointing. Giving two stars because the staff was helpful and friendly in securing our reservation and because our server was attentive and did his best. The rest is just bad. We came for Christmas Eve dinner. There was nothing, not one thing that was great about the food or the kitchen's performance. There were some things that were competent and that's as good as it got, sadly. Details: Starters... Party of 4. 2 French onion soups. The other 2 of us wanted to split the wedge. The kitchen was "too overloaded" to split it for us so they offered us an extra plate. I thought that was lazy and tacky. I understand it's not Golden Steer or Peter Luger but it's also not Denny's. Our reservation was for 5:15 and the restaurant was about 1/4 full at the time. The soups were "fine" according to the two who ordered them. The wedge had literally 2 candied pecans, 2 grape tomatoes, almost no dressing, 5 or 6 bleu cheese crumbles, a ton of shaved red onion and that was that. It had potential but it was pretty sad as it was. Mains took forever to arrive, to the point that our server came to tell us they were working on it more than once, even sharing there were “7 tickets ahead of us” at one point. The restaurant was NOT at capacity at this point, though much busier than when we’d arrived. Mains: 1 crab legs, 1 burger, 1 9 oz filet, 1 halibut. The halibut was one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen served. IT COULD NOT BE CUT WITH A KNIFE. It had to be sawed and once it was sawed, it was a stringy, overcooked disaster. Inedible. And not just because it was unchewable. I'm not sure what they could have possible done to it to achieve such a mess but my imagination leads me to think it had been cooked and recooked several times over the course of days for this extraordinarily horrific texture to be achieved. We sent it back (I don't love doing that at restaurants but this was absolutely gross and simply had to be sent back). They sent a new piece of halibut and it was somehow worse than the first, which I didn't think was possible. It was an absolute brick. We sent that back too and just gave up on ordering something else for the person who ordered it because the rest of the entrees were honestly not that great and we had almost no confidence in ordering something else. The filet was cooked to the right temp which was a relief (medium plus) but it was of fair quality. Bearnaise sauce was absolutely nasty. It tasted like French's yellow mustard and white vinegar and looked like that too. Crab legs were described as "ok at best." Hamburger was... not good. French fries were described as "fine." We ordered scalloped potatoes on the reco of the server. They were greasy and heavy handed. Ratios were off. A lot of cheese and oil and just not balanced. Creamed corn had absolutely ZERO flavor. Even after adding salt they were as bland as can be. Our server was apologetic about the halibut and said the kitchen wanted to buy us a dessert for the trouble. A nice gesture but when something as bad as that gets served, a manager needs to address it with the table. I would never give this restaurant a second chance based on that alone because it shows a systemic lack of service protocol. How can you put a plate as embarrassing as that on the table and fail to address it? Lame. We weren't going to even accept the dessert because we were all pretty over it at that point...but one of us convinced the rest to order a couple of desserts. The one on the house and one other. They were the best thing we had by a lot but they were not incredible, either. The chocolate soufflé was actually good and so was the chocolate macadamia cake. We all found the desserts to be surprisingly competent based on all the other items. This is a one and done and my suggestion to anyone who has actually made it to the end of this TL;DR is to pay the difference between a $$$ and a $$$$ steakhouse and go to Hank's at Green Valley Ranch or Prime 141 in Southern Highlands instead. Super disappointing dinner.
